Those puppets are cool! What’s their story?

The puppets were made by Miss Pussycat [of New Orleans art rock outfit Quintron and Miss Pussycat]–one of my favorite artists ever. Those pictures were taken at her art show at Live With Animals Gallery at Monster Island , Brooklyn, which was curated by [Golden Triangle singer] Vashti.

And the clouds?

The white cloud-like picture is something Vashti and [bassist] Cameron made. They installed this cloud at Glasslands above the stage. They did the last re-design there.

Three band members (Vashti, Cameron, and Alix) are from Atlanta. Were they involved in the music scene there?

Alix was in the Lids and also the Wet Dreams, and then the Angry Angles in Memphis were awesome. They had a few singles that are hard to get now.

How did you guys get together?

We met in Brooklyn and the three of us just started playing music. Then the three others joined. Then we decided to make a few songs so we could tour to Mardi Gras. We didn’t even have a name yet, but we’ve stayed a band until now.

What was the concept behind the band?

We just wanted to be a band that played birthday parties and make people dance. We’re really into circuses and carnivals and rituals, and sometimes those things are part of our set.

How was the Mardi Gras tour?

Mardi Gras tour was awesome. We played at Circle Bar in New Orleans- we barely had any songs yet, so we often played a Monks cover, Higgledy Piggeley- I guess the bartender had been playing that Monks CD all day before we got there, so people went nuts when we played it. Knyfe Hyts was an awesome band to tour with- they are the ultimate party band- they played til the sun came up at the Pearl.

Did people receive you well in New Orleans?

Yes! I think we were tailor made for New Orleans. I met some New Orleans transplants
recently here in Brooklyn who told me our shows reminded her of sweaty crazy parties at the Spellcaster Lounge in New Orleans, which is an awesome complement! They have crazy ass parties there with Quintron and Miss Pussycat and all those bounce emcees like Katy Red and Big Freedia.

You guys seem like you’re into a variety of zany things. What are some of your non-musical influences?

Circuses, carnivals, magic, films, Jodorowsky, Alucarda, secret societies, runes, numbers, New York at night.

Your outfits are all pretty great…what’s your style inspiration?

Plant life.

What are your plans for the near future?

We’ve got a split single coming in April w/ The Fresh and Onlys and a bunch of touring here and abroad.
