Converse CONS Spring 2014
CONS Project is a series of global creative projects brought to you by Converse CONS, to help inspire high school and college students who find their creative outlets in music.
CONS Project: Brooklyn
A series of workshops were held at Converse Rubber Tracks in Williamsburg Brooklyn from November through January. Special guest workshops hosts included Kidsuper, Mike Jones, Dee+Ricky, Weird Days, Chuck Strangers, Ryan Hemsworth, EL-P and Dillinger Escape Plan.

CONS Project: Brooklyn – Workshops
Bishop Nehru – Rapper, Music Producer, Music Video Director.
17-year-old Bishop Nehru is among the new wave of young NY MCs, bringing his old school flow and complex lyrics & rhyme schemes. Not just a musician, he produces and directs videos. Fresh off two new projects and a tour, he is currently prepping a collaborative EP.
Phony PPL – Funk, Hip-Hop, R&B Band.
Phony PPL popped on New York City’s indie radar in 2011 with a sound built on vintage astral funk, colorful world music and dusted-out hip-hop/RB. Quickly moving from self release singles to tours with hip-hop legends, the DIY crew has gained a global following. Currently prepping their debut album.
Gogy Esparza – Artist.
A multifaceted artist who concentrates in fine art, photography, video, and creative direction. Well reputed as a cutting edge young artist, Gogy is featured in galleries and media worldwide.
Rat King – Rap Collective.
The raw Manhattan rap collective – Patrick “Wiki” Morales, “MC Hak” Hakeem Lewis, and producer Eric “Sporting Life” Adiele. Committed to a DIY worldview where art and rap intersect, the band self released their EP, Wiki93, in 2011. The EP caught the ear of XL Recordings. They are creating their debut album and playing performances around the country.
Mike Anderson – Pro Skateboarder.
Not your average SoCal skater, he developed a knack for East coast style street transitions, wallies, and shredding unorthodox spots. Mike’s style is more fun than serious, but it might be the illusion of his effortless skating.
Zered Bassett – Pro Skateboarder.
A hometown legend in Cape Cod, Massachusetts before he turned 18, he quickly rose from an unknown ripper to one of the most exciting skateboarders around. Instead of fleeing for sunnier skies on the left coast, Zered is an all-terrain east coast skater. Navigating everything from the crustiest bump-to-bar to a line of perfect ledges, Dr. Z is proof that east coast can hang with any of California’s finest.
Nick Trapasso – Pro Skateboarder.
Catching everyone’s attention from an early age, he consistently has dropped jaws with his laid-back style. Not content with just contests and sponsorships, Trapasso started his own company, Life Extension Skateboards. Now he’s busy being a C.E.O and being smooth as ever on a board.
Trash Talk – Thrash-Punk Band.
Four furious scions of guitar-wrought destruction, Trash Talk is a Sacramento based thrash-punk juggernaut. They bring their anarchic and energetic act all over the world with almost ceaseless touring.
Los Rakas – Pan American Group.
Comprised of cousins Raka Rich & Raka Dun, these pioneering Panamanians by way of the Bay area are on the frontier of a new Latin urban sound. Known for their fresh mix of hip-hop, plena, reggae, and dancehall, Los Rakas represent the cutting edge of Pan-American flows.
EL-P – Rapper, Music Producer.
Independent rap icon & producer El-P remains firmly at the center of cutting-edge music. El-P has continued to deliver his singular form of muscular boom bap and lyrical mastery, bringing his one-of-a-kind show to audiences worldwide.
Flatbush Zombies – Hip-Hop Group.
Exemplifying the cultural collision of hip-hop. Fashion forward sneakerheads, they draw their cues from horror movies, street culture, psychedelic and punk music. They’ve gone global in less than a year, playing festivals around the world.
The Bots – Rock Band.
Leaping into the public consciousness with a ripping live show, the brothers skill and three albums belie their age – 18 and 14 years old. A new record out on the FADER label, shows the band seems destined to dismantle notions of what rock should look and sound like.
The Shrine – Punk Band.
The Shrine is from Venice, CA and exemplify the city perfectly – relentlessly energetic, creative, and loud. The punk trio have made their name by skating backyard pools, playing packed basement shows around the country, gaining a growing cult following based on bursting riffs.
Vizie – Artist.
NY based painter and photographer. Championed by some of the top galleries in the world for art that pushes modern boundaries. His photography always features a simple and often humorous narrative other peoples’ written graffiti.
Dee & Ricky – Fashion Designers.
Twin fashion designers who infuse streetwise innovation into their creative craft. Notorious for rethinking street style staples into pieces coveted by artists and athletes. Recently launched their own fashion label, store, and restaurant.
