Seven teams—made up of musicians the likes of Jermaine Dupri, Jim Jones and Of Montreal—competing in a round robin basketball tournament in a gym small enough to allow fans a front row seat to the show, followed by an after-party with DJ sets and some southern BBQ. All because there’s really no way you can have one without the other.
The action was hot and heavy as the teams made their way through the brackets. You can check out all the action in the recap video.
Listen to Jim Jones, and he will tell you the result was never in doubt. Check out highlights from the team captain and his squad, as well as some top notch trash-talking.
So So Def
The So So Def team was headed up by veteran music producer and label mogul, Jermaine Dupri, a prodigy who began producing before he could legally drive the congested highways of ATL. His squad was made up of some of Atlanta’s hip-hop royalty, and they weren’t too shabby on the hardwood either.
Southern Hospitality is a five-man wrecking crew of ATL home grown rappers, DJs and producers. Check out their performance on and off the court at Band of Ballers.
Photosets from the tournament and for each of the bands are shown in the galleries below.
And, the bands also provided free tracks for download – grab them for your playlists at The Fader site.
